Memorial Day Weekend

This past weekend, Jalayne's brother Devan and his wife Treasa, came out from Utah to visit us. We had a lot of fun activities that we did. One of them was taking a tour of Hammond's Candy Factory. They make candy canes, taffy, and other hard candy.

We also went to the Denver Botanic Gardens. Here they have tons of different flower gardens from different areas of the world. We had never been before.

Hailey and Douglas taking a walk through a bamboo path.

There was a very cool iris garden. Lots of colors that we had never seen in an iris before.

Hailey had such a fun time with her Uncle Devan and Aunt Treasa. She was quite sad when they had to leave. On Memorial Day, we went to an early matinee of the movie "How to Train Your Dragon." Hailey actually did pretty well sitting through it. After, we went to a family picnic before taking them to the airport. Thanks for coming to visit us guys. We had fun!!

Mile High Teacher of the Year

Last month, Douglas recieved an honor and was recognized as the Mile High Teacher of the Year for his school. This recipient was chosen by a vote by his collegues. There was a ceremony, downtown, to honor all Mile High Teachers. The mayor was there and Douglas had his picture taken with him. He also recieved a nice paper weight. This will definitely look good on his resume. The dress that Hailey is wearing was supposed to be her next Christmas dress, but she fits into it now!

After the ceremony, we all went to Maggiano's for a celebration dinner.

Our Very Own Pageant Princess

Just for fun, we entered Hailey in a beauty pageant, but it was nothing like "Toddlers and Tiaras." This pageant was very natural, meaning no makeup, no fake hair, etc...

There were two parts to her competition: casual wear and formal wear.

For casual wear, the judges wanted to see her interact with her favorite toy. So she took her baby.

One of the many poses that was unrehearsed

Interacting with the judges. Notice she hits her competition in the head with the soccer ball...this was definitely not rehearsed!!
For the formal part, she had to walk on some marked spots to music. Jalayne was able to help her walk, but she really didn't need it.

She was able to "dance" (twirl) on her spots to show herself off. She had such a fun time doing this. We really thought she would have a meltdown, especially since this was during her nap time.

Well, it was time for the crowning...and she won!! In addition to winning her age division, she also won "most photogenic" from a picture of her that we submitted. She was awarded a tiara, two sashes and two trophies!

She was so excited!

So now, we have the decision to make of putting her into the state competition now.

Easter 2010

This year's Easter was fun. Hailey seemed to enjoy it. It started off with our tradition of doing Easter Bunny baskets on Saturday morning. Hailey was excited for her candy and Cootie Bugs game.

We then headed to Lone Tree, where my mom was in charge of their neiborhood's egg hunt. Once Hailey knew what to do, she took off. I had to ask if there was a limit to how many eggs she could get because she was picking up tons!

Hailey had lots of fun hunting with her cousins!

After our hunt, we headed to good seafood restaurant to celebrate our close family friend, Peggy's birthday.

Easter Sunday was spent at the Hamilton's house. We enjoyed the nice weather and had a few pictures taken at the park with Hailey's Easter dress.

Finally!!

For those of you who are leary about coming to Colorado because we don't have a Cafe Rio, worry no more. Cafe Rio has come to Denver! Jalayne broke the news to me with her valentine's gift to me yesterday. She gave me a card with a coupon for dinner at Cafe Rio in Denver. So that is where we spent our FHE last night! This is one of my favorite restaurants and always look forward to eating at whenever we are in Utah. It isn't that close to us, but that is probably a good thing for our wallets.
